This innovative revival breaks new ground by placing its audience in the middle of the action. Studio 54 becomes the "Kit-Kat Club", a seedy nightclub in Weimar Germany where performers and patrons play out their decadent and desperate hands.
Closing Date at Studio 54: January 4, 2004
“Willkommen”, croons the androgynous emcee, as the dancing girls do their thing. Young Sally Bowles, the English star of the show, steps from the shadows and tentatively starts to sing. An unstinting examination of how dark times can draw the darkness out of people, this show is not for the faint (or weak) of heart. Some of the audience sits in the club, where Bob Fosse's choreography blurs the line between dance and striptease, and some sit in a mezzanine of traditional theatre seats.
If you enjoy Cabaret, you may also want to check out Chicago, just a few streets down.
Casting Rundown: Adam Pascal plays "The Emcee", and Susan Egan plays "Sally Bowles".
