Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life

Chita Rivera tells how she got to be Chita Rivera in this new bio-musical.
Closing performance at the Schoenfeld Theater: February 19, 2006
This production is unique within the recent crop of (usually solo) musical theatre tell-alls, in that Rivera is surrounded by a cast of 11. Backed by the ensemble, Rivera tells anecdotes, discusses choreographers and their techniques, and reminisces about her childhood dreams.
Definitely best for connoisseurs of the form (lots of in-jokes here), the evening's book has been sculpted by renowned playwright Terrence McNally, and the reviews were generally appreciative (see below).
So if you're a devotee of the musical theatre of the last forty years or so, this is a great ticket.
But then, you probably already knew that.
Of Interest: Dick Van Dyke appeared 1/24-1/26 only. (No, not in the role of Chita Rivera.) The Jerome Robbins choreography for the "America" number from West Side Story was added to the show on 1/14.
