Director Des McAnuff said recently that "Guys and Dolls may well be the greatest musical of all time; it is inarguably one of them," and he's absolutely right - very few would argue against this classic, created in 1950 by Frank Loesser (music and lyrics) and Abe Burrows & Jo Swerling (book) and subtitled "A Musical Fable of Broadway." NYC critics weren't very enthusiastic about this revival (which is the sixth Broadway version of the show), but, in our experience, even a so-so production of "Guys and Dolls" is a treat.
Lauren Graham, who played Lorelai Gilmore on TV's "Gilmore Girls," plays the long-suffering bride-to-be Miss Adelaide opposite Oliver Platt as Nathan Detroit, proprietor of the "Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York," the colorfully shady institution at the heart of the story.
