This is a seasonal production first staged on Broadway in 2006 The family-friendly production of Dr. Seuss' classic story returns to Broadway.
Closing Performance at the St. James: January 6, 2008
This Christmas panto was a tradition in San Diego for many years, and here it returns to Broadway for a second season. The lavish sets and entertaining characters make it a great pick for groups with small children, and good-humored adults along for the ride will probably emerge smiling, and not in that glazed Nicholson-in-The-Shining way that adults usually walk out of kindertheatre.
Plot: There's a green fellow who lives on a tall hill with a small dog. He dislikes Christmas.
From the presenter:
After a sold-out run last year, The Grinch returns to Broadway this holiday season. Featuring the hit songs “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas,” the beloved tale comes to life as The Grinch discovers there’s more to Christmas then he bargained for in this heart-warming holiday classic. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small", decides to steal Christmas away from the Whos, an endlessly cheerful bunch bursting with holiday spirit.
The Grinch is a natural at thieving, even lying to little Cindy-Lou Who about his intentions as he stuffs the family tree, the "roast beast" feast and every last present up the chimney. When the Whos still insist on celebrating Christmas as if the thievery had never occurred, they melt the old miser's heart and, in the end, the Grinch learns that the holidays are not about accumulating presents but about love and togetherness.
Running Subway Productions along with 3-time Tony Award winning director, Jack O’Brien will bring the critically acclaimed, record-breaking production back to Broadway at the St. James Theatre from November 1st – January 6th. The production will run up to 15 performances a week providing families with even more opportunities to see the Grinch, especially with up to 8 performances scheduled on weekends and several 11am weekday matinees for schools [NB! -Eds.]. Plus, families will rejoice with special ticket pricing 10%-15% below most other Broadway musicals.
Ticketer Age Recommendation: Performances are recommended for a general audience. As an advisory to adults who might bring young people, Grinch recommends its productions for ages 3 and up. All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a ticket.
