Running since: November 2008 A new musical based on William Steig's classic book and the mega-hit film it spawned comes to Broadway, and, like its title character, proves to be highly imperfect and totally irresistible. Closes January 3rd
The Broadway production of Shrek the Musical closed January 3, 2010. For current Broadway show listings and tickets, please click here.
After a pre-Broadway run in Seattle and substantial re-tinkering during rehearsals here, Shrek has arrived at the Broadway Theatre, along with his wisecracking sidekick Donkey, Princess Fiona, Lord Farquaad and a chorus of everybody's favorite fairytale creatures.
You may find your attention (or, more specifically, that of your children) wandering a bit toward the middle of the first act, but don't worry - the show hits its stride just before intermission and sprints to a big, bright, beautiful, heartfelt and completely rewarding finish.
The three stars (Brian d'Arcy James as Shrek, Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona, and Christopher Seiber as Lord Farquaad) are terrific, so if Shrek is on your list, you should try to see it with the original cast.
Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre. Everyone must have a ticket.
