New in 2010 A new musical based on the characters of New Yorker cartoonist Charles Addams comes to Broadway, with an impressive cast of Broadway vets headed by Tony winners Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth (as Gomez and Morticia, naturally).
Created by "Jersey Boys" authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, Drama Desk-winning songwriter Andrew Lippa ("The Wild Party"), choreographer Sergio Trujillo ("Jersey Boys"), and Olivier Award-winning director/designers Phelim McDermott & Julian Crouch ("Shockheaded Peter"), this is an Addams Family portrait you've never seen before. A family that's quite shockingly, and endearingly, just like yours.
Charles Addams worked as a cartoonist for nearly 60 years, and the "Addams Family" characters are a very small part of his output. In fact, prior to his work on the 1964 TV show, they existed only in bits and pieces in approximately 50 of his cartoons. But as Addams developed the idea for the sitcom, the motley group of previously-unnamed characters morphed into Morticia, Fester, Gomez, Wednesday, Pugsley, Grandmama, Lurch and Thing, and came to be known around the globe as "The Addams Family."
