New in 2006 A musical adaptation of Mark Twain's "Eve's Diary" (detailing the goings-on in Eden) and two other short stories about romance. Kristen Chenoweth stars.
Closing Performance at Studio 54: March 11, 2007
After seemingly attempting to placate the seamier ghosts of Studio 54 with racy programming like Cabaret and Threepenny Opera, The Roundabout returns to more traditional fare with this traditional Bock & Harnick (She Loves Me, Fiddler on the Roof) tuner. Television, stage, and light opera star Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked) joins up with Broadway stalwarts Brian D'Arcy James and Marc Kudisch for this tripartite tuner about forbidden fruit. Best for folks looking for a light, fun evening on the town (reminiscent of a lavishly staged episode of "The Carol Burnett Show"), this is great pick for infrequent theatregoers, and frequent visitors to the Street will likely appreciate the chance to watch Ms. Chenoweth's star turn.
Full synopsis (with major spoilers) here. Twain's original story here. (If you read the Twain story, skip the last couple of paragraphs - there's a nice moment at the end of the first act best experienced live.) The second story is The Lady or the Tiger by Frank Stockton, and the third is "Passionella" by Jules Pfeiffer.
