Hugh Jackman stars in this telling of the tale of singer/songwriter Peter Allen ("I Honestly Love You", "The Theme From Arthur") from humble beginnings in the Australian outback to the flamboyant glam and glitter of pop stardom.
Closing Date at the Imperial Theatre: September 12, 2004
Before he was a Hollywood star, Hugh Jackman was an Australian song and dance man, and he returns to those roots with a vengeance in this lavish musical about the first man to dance with the Rockettes. His infectious and easygoing good nature carries this (sometimes treacly) treatment of the life of Allen, a troubled artist whose many love affairs (including his marriage to Liza Minelli and his affair with her father) served as a sobering counterpoint to the great good feeling of his songs.
2004 Tony Awards: Best Leading Actor in a Musical (Jackman).
