New in 2007 A brand-new big budget mashup of Riverdance and Les Miserables (from the authors of the second), the saga of a 16th Century female Irish pirate
Closing Performance at the Hilton Theatre: June 17, 2007
This cross between Les Miserables and Riverdance is one of the most lavishly produced Broadway spectacles of the season. The sweeping power ballads of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg unfold over a deep-hued staging evoking 16th Century Ireland.
Plot: The daughter of a chieftain dons trousers and smuggles herself into a crew of pirates, eventually falling in love with one of them and ennobling them all. If you're looking for something along the lines of Phantom or Les Mis, this could be a very good choice, despite the critical flogging it took from the Gotham scribes. (See critics' ratings, below.)
