The critics were almost unanimous in praising the passion of the young performers (all of whom, including the band, are under 17) but wishing they were working with more inspired material.
USA Today may have summed it up best, saying "13 is seldom either surprising or offensive...a credit to both the limited imagination of its creative team and the winsome freshness of its all-teen cast. Thanks largely to these performances, 13 is, if hardly awesome (not even in the lesser sense of the word), an innocuous and sometimes touching diversion."
On the other hand, one of our subscribers said "for my daughter's birthday, I brought 3 of her best friends with us to see 13 - they LOVED it! And it's very hard to please young teenagers, so emphasis on the LOVED it!"
Interesting Schedule Note: The weeknight performances begin at 7:00 PM....presumably, in order to allow the target market to go to basketball practice, grab a bite, see the show, then finish math homework and still be in bed before Letterman.
