The play, on the other hand, was less warmly received. The Daily News called it "a stark and modest work that's all talk and no action." Newsday was a bit more enthusiastic, describing the show as a series of "monologues about moral ambiguity" by two cops "in a violent downward spiral of shakedowns, bigotry and enormous self-delusion," and calling the writing "not profound or wildly original, but commanding." First produced as a workshop by New York Stage and Film in 2006, the play had its professional world premiere in 2007 at a small Chicago venue. It was remounted in February 2008 at Chicago's Royal George Theatre, and won Jefferson Awards (Chicago's version of the Tonys) for Best New Work and Best Production.
