A revival of Tennessee Williams' gritty drama of dreams and desire, starring Natasha Richardson and John C. Reilly.
Closing Date at Studio 54: July 3, 2005
John C. Reilly, the charismatic 'everyman' of Hollywood fame plays laboring lug 'Stanley Kowalski' in Tennessee Williams' heartfelt drama. His passionate marriage takes an odd turn when his wife's melodramatic sister 'Blanche' (Richardson) shows up at the door. Blanche clearly thinks her sister married beneath her, but the marriage is a happy one, and Blanche is clearly not. Thus begins just under three hours of talking, yelling, crying, kissing, and card-playing. (The original title was 'The Poker Game'.)
Best for mature minds, this is the latest in a series of Broadway revivals that simmer where the originals of yesteryear smoldered. On the other hand, it is one of the great plays of our time, it should be experienced by every theatregoer at least once, and it doesn't surface on Broadway all that often.
Expect a clear and cogent production of an American classic, nothing more, nothing less.
