From MTC, a revival of Alan Ayckbourn's comedy - a skewering of modern manners, with a soupçon of the tragic.
Closing performance at the Biltmore: December 4, 2005
This is a very interesting British comedy, set on successive Christmases in a small English town. Three couples - the grasping entrepreneur, the urbane architect, and the sedentary banker (and all their better halves) get together for a few drinks each Christmas Eve. The plot of the play traces the rise of the brash, young, witless entrepreneur (played by Alan Ruck from TV's "Spin City"), the slow disintegration of the brilliant young architect and his wife, and the melancholy decline of the old-money banker and his troubled wife.
Not to worry, though, it's a comedy. And if you're looking for a literate, funny night at the theatre (with a tincture of darkness to it for depth), this could be a good buy.
MTC is a long-established theatre here in the city - count on exquisite sets, lights and costumes, and a cadre of actors who know their way around a theatre.
May be inappropriate for 12 and under. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
There will be an open-captioned performance on Saturday, November 19 at 2:00 PM. (Details)
