Anthony Sher brings his one man show about Holocaust survivor Primo Levi to Broadway.
Closing Date at the Music Box: August 14, 2005
One of the virtues of Broadway is that it attracts some of the best theatre from elsewhere for a brief stay on the Great White Way. While not indigenous to the glittering marquees and dusty rehearsal halls of Gotham, these expat productions certainly exemplify some of the highest theatrical achievements of the age.
Based on If This Is A Man, this brief, sparse retelling of Levi's holocaust internment is certainly not for those seeking a light entertainment. Imported from the UK's National Theatre for a brief summer run, Sher's adaptation eschews spectacle and melodrama in favor of a minimal and straightforward approach. This is heavy theatre, but very approachable in its simplicity.
It also helps that it is performed by one of the most capable actors in the English-speaking world.
Latecomers will not be admitted.
