Neil Simon's romantic comedy about newlyweds moving into a fifth-floor walkup apartment. Amanda Peet and Patrick Wilson star.
Closing Performance at the Cort: May 21, 2006
Long before "Friends" moved in, this romantic comedy set in an apartment in the Village was a Broadway mainstay in the groovy era of ERA, lava lamps on the tables, and shag on the carpet. An exuberant young bride (Peet) tries to draw her staid husband (Wilson) into the excitement of the time, aided by the usual kooky upstairs neighbor (Tony Roberts) and her single mother (Jill Clayburgh).
Ethnic food, improvised dinners, holes in the ceilings, and newlywed snits and spats all combine for a very enjoyable evening, a traditional comedy from a masterful writer, ably staged.
It should be noted that the critics did not like this show. But that's a little like asking Julia Child her opinion of a turkey sandwich on rye.
And sometimes, turkey on rye does the trick.
May be inappropriate for 8 and under. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
