At the Biltmore, Manahattan Theatre Club presents a new drama by Donald Margulies (Dinner With Friends, Sight Unseen).
Closing Date at the Biltmore: March 27, 2005
This is an old-fashioned play about a middle-aged writer trying to come to terms with his life. Adam Arkin ("Chicago Hope", "The West Wing") stars, surrounded by a very capable supporting cast.
From the theatre:
A deeply moving new work about a novelist who’s finally hit the big time, with a bestselling book primed for a Hollywood adaptation. But when his father’s health brings him back to the Brooklyn of his childhood, he is forced to reconcile the boy he was, with the successful man he has become.
MTC is a mainstay of theatre in this city, and has developed many extraordinary spoken plays over the years - they're very at home with work like this, and stalwart director Daniel Sullivan delivers the goods for the umpteenth time.
No razzmatazz, just the comfort of an old leather chair - dark, heavy, well oiled, and the vague scent of camphor. Think Odets.
