From the producers, a pithy plot summary:

The King of Denmark is dead. Consumed with grief, Prince Hamlet determines to avenge his father's apparent murder, with devastating consequences for his family and the Kingdom.

British critics were enthusiastic about Grandage's staging, Law's performance, and the overall production (which originated at London's highly-acclaimed Donmar Warehouse). The Guardian called it a "swift, clear well-staged version of Shakespeare's most exciting play," the Telegraph said "Grandage's gripping, thrilling, deeply-felt accessible production seizes on the fact that Hamlet is an absolutely crackling psychological thriller," and Time Out London said "it's a pleasure to report that Law is more than equal to the role."

The reaction from NYC critics was more mixed, running the gamut from unequivocal raves to respectful pans. USA Today called the production "as brave, beautiful and robustly exciting a reading of this play as you're likely to see." The AP said Law’s "turbocharged performance…is not particularly subtle, but it's well-spoken and clear," while Newsday said Law "commands virtually every scene" but is not well-served by the surprisingly "routine supporting cast."
