New in 2007 At the Roundabout's flagship Broadway home, a revival of Craig Lucas' comedy, starring the dad from "Frasier" (AKA Tony Award winner John Mahoney).
The Broadway production of Prelude to a Kiss closed April 29, 2007. For current Broadway show listings and tickets, please click here.
In this intriguingly plotted Pulitzer Prize winning comedy, a mysterious older man somehow changes bodies with the bride at a wedding.
(It plays much less creepy than it sounds.)
Most of the shows produced on Broadway are pieced together from different commercial elements, then assembled in a rented Broadway theatre. This one, like all of the Broadway shows staged at the American Airlines or the Biltmore, is produced by a constantly producing nonprofit theatre. It's a little like the difference between estate-bottled wine and blended vintages.
We're not disparaging the Commercial, but it does add a certain something when you realize that the same theatre that created this light comedy that you're watching made a Shavian drama under the same roof a couple months ago, and an old-fashioned musical before that.
Call it an act of provenance.
