Running since November 2009 Eddie Izzard and Dennis Haysbert star in a new play written and directed by Pulitzer-winner David Mamet. Closes August 21st.
The Broadway production of Race closed August 21, 2010. For current Broadway show listings and tickets, please click here.
The show's producers call it a "riveting new play by America’s foremost playwright in which three attorneys (two black and one white) are offered a chance to defend a white man charged with a crime against a black woman."
NYC critics were generally positive on this production, with almost all praising the cast, which also includes Afton C. Williamson and Richard Thomas (who, despite decades of experience as a stage actor, will probably always be best known as John Boy from TVs "The Waltons").
Bloomberg News was especially positive, calling the show "a high-voltage melodrama that is unafraid to raise painful questions while dispensing prickly ideas and provocative dialogue amid steady suspense." The NY Times, while generally somewhat less positive, said "the issues it raises should offer ample nutrition for many a post-theater dinner conversation." NY1 gave the show a similarly mixed review, but called it "plenty entertaining and thought provoking."
Casting Note - James Spader and David Alan Grier completed their runs in this production on June 20th.
