The show opens at a dinner thrown by a modern businesswoman for an assemblage of famous women from history - if that throws you, hang on for the second act, where the more conventional narrative begins. The staging is a bit adventurous, the text a bit eclectic - buying this ticket is a bit like ordering a complex, exotic drink that you've never had before - either pleasant intoxication or befuddled grimaces are likely.
The theme of the evening: At what cost does a woman succeed in today's world?
Best for audiences looking for an intriguing evening, this is hardly the standard Broadway fare. The cast is reportedly top-notch, and the staging reportedly sure-handed - in short, it's an very odd play staged very capably.
The 6/7/08 2:00 PM performance will be Open-Captioned in some seating areas (details).
There are some post-show talkbacks after Saturday matinees:
Saturday, May 10: Elin Diamond, professor of English at Rutgers University and co-editor of the upcoming Cambridge Companion to Caryl Churchill; TOP GIRLS cast members Elizabeth Marvel and Ana Reeder; and Lisa McNulty, MTC’s Associate Director of Artistic Operations.
