In their concert series "Rituals for Peace" Elektra Kurtis and Ensemble Elektra are bridging cultural borders and genres of music, using the essence of Mediterranean music, spiced with Polish, Greek and Arabic flavor, based in contemporary Jazz and Classical music forms.
The group brings a fresh perspective to creative music, connecting the modern beat of New York's life with its members' multi-ethnic roots. Their mission is to integrate musical traditions and styles and to emphasize building peace through live music rituals. The Ensemble has performed at venues like Joe's Pub, Symphony Space, jazz clubs (Cornelia Street Cafe), and festivals in Europe (Tampere Jazz Happening in Finland, Jazz at Starówka in Warsaw Poland).
Ensemble Elektra will play original compositions by Elektra Kurtis from the newly released cd "Bridges from the East".
Musicians include: Elektra Kurtis (violinist, composer and leader of Ensemble Elektra), Curtis Stewart (violinist with Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, PUBLIQuartet), Lefteris Bournias (Regina Carter, leader of Apollo Orchestras), Bradley Jones (bassist with: Ornette Coleman, Elvis Costello, Elvin Jones) and Reggie Nicholson (drummer with: Muhal Richard Abrams, Billy Bang, Leroy Jenkins).
