After a steady diet of "Sex and the City," which covered female friendship in all its warts-and-all complexity and glory, "Vanities" now seems surfacey and clichéd and Kirshenbaum's unmemorable songs do nothing to change that. Though likable, the actresses are hamstrung by thin material and monochromatic characters.
