The underlying friendship between the two men is, occasionally, improbable, and the story can be slow going in the beginning, when it relies on crude humor. Yet as the pressure builds and the stakes rise, the insights grow sharper and the tension more gripping. While the play is certainly in debt to many that came before it, "Extinction" ultimately stands on its own as an impressive work.
