New in 2007 A new drama based on Joan Didion's popular book, starring Vanessa Redgrave.
Closing Performance at the Booth Theatre: 8/25/2007
One of the recent sensations in the book publishing world was this recent memoir about a difficult hour in the life of writer Joan Didion - her husband dies of a sudden coronary attack, and she is faced with the first year of her life without him. Unlikely stuff for Broadway, but as it happened, legendary actress Vanessa Redgrave took an interest. The director is David Hare (The Hours).
Best for folks looking for a thoughtful and serious evening in the theatre, it got great reviews (see critics ratings, below), the only dissenters being those who thought it fell a bit short of the brilliance of the book. Given the austere style of the text, it's not a tear-jerker, but it's certainly a good pick for those looking for a play of substance, graced by a legendary actress.
No late seating.
2006-2007 Drama Desk Award - Outstanding Solo Performance.
