Ever wondered what happened in Oz before Dorothy dropped in? This musical about the teenage years of the Good Witch and the Green Witch is a family-friendly spectacle housed in one of Broadway’s largest and most comfortable theatres.

This story of two teenage sorcerers in the imaginary land of Oz is a memorable and entertaining example of the Broadway state of mind. Using Gregory Maguire’s postmodern novel as a jumping-off point, the show traces the fortunes of the Green Witch as her teenage free spirits encounter a confused and confusing world, while her more “popular” friend Glinda finds great success waiting at every turn.

This is a good pick for families with older children (girls, especially, might relate to the stories of the two witches’ coming of age, as the book writer was the writer of “My So-Called Life”) and younger ones will certainly be kept entertained by the gigantic sets, colorful lights and hummable melodies. Generally, if you like musical theatre, you’ll enjoy this show.

Cast News: Kristen Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Ben Vereen and Carol Kane are no longer in the show.

Children under 4 years of age will not be admitted into the theater. Recommended age for children is 8 years and up. There is nothing of a vulgar or sexual nature, but there are adult themes. Everyone is required to have a ticket.

Here is a clip from the Late Show - Idina Menzel (no longer in the show) and company performing the Act I closer, Defying Gravity:
