Seymour, a drab and meek florist's assistant, finds a strange small plant, takes care of it, and names it after Audrey, his secret crush. Unfortunately, the plant turns out to be a ravenous flesh-eating space alien intent on world domination. Who knew?
Closing Date at the Virginia Theatre: August 22, 2004
This spoof musical had a long run Off-Broadway a couple decades ago, and has been produced by theaters big and small around the world ever since. It's a small piece - only four actors, if you don't count the chorus, puppeteers and disembodied voices - but thanks to generous amplification and a heckuva puppet, the quirky good humor of the show more than fills the house.
The show is an odd hybrid of doo-wop musical, camp classic, and old-fashioned love story. It's a good pick if you're looking for a broad comedy with hummable tunes.
Family Rundown: While you can certainly bring third-graders and above, you might want to prepare them for the fact that the carnivorous space alien plant might misbehave. And there's this very odd dentist...
Casting News: Joey Fatone currently stars. Hunter Foster, Kerry Butler and Douglas Sills have left the show.
