Prominent British director David Leveaux helms a gossamer revival of Tennessee Williams' classic drama, starring Jessica Lange and Christian Slater.

After the Kennedy Center's Tennessee Williams Festival last year, poems have been popping up in shoeboxes all over town. This is the most prominent of the spate of revivals, a Broadway presentation of Williams' signature 1945 drama.

Set in the 1930’s, the play tells the story of a small family in St. Louis: Tom - the idle dreamer, Amanda - the overbearing mother; and Laura - the innocent and frail sister. A gentleman caller is coming to call on Laura that night, and, well, it’s not going to go well. When the night is over, the evening will be forever imprinted on their memories, and it will be the door by which Tom, now grown, narrates the play.

The NYC critics were unkind, harrumphing that the revival lacked the grit of realism, opting instead for a dreamlike style of memory. It’s a tough call, as the piece is described as a 'memory play' - here, the memory is more madeline than it is chocolate chip.
