Bob Fosse, the legendary choreographer who created the original Broadway production, got most of his early training in the burlesque halls. In that tradition, this production is an homage to the libido - a writhing, gyrating tour-de-force sure to raise an eyebrow or two.
This production, conceived and directed by Walter Bobbie as a staged concert and then morphed into a Broadway revival (note - there's not much scenery), features Fosse's legendary original choreography as restaged by Ann Reinking. The excellent score includes the classic "All That Jazz."
The 1976 Broadway production was only a modest hit, but now 15 years into its second Broadway run, "Chicago" is a bona fide international sensation, earning 6 Tony Awards, London's Olivier Award, and a Grammy Award, and wowing audiences from Mexico City to Moscow and Sao Paulo to South Africa. In addition, the 2002 film (which was clearly spawned by this successful stage revival) won 6 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
