New World Stages is a converted complex of movie theaters in midtown, about a block west of the Broadway theatre district. Very well-apportioned, with excellent intermission bars and very comfortable seats, it is a rental house, meaning that outside producers pay the theatre a certain amount to bring their shows in, resulting in wildly varying fare, but the high rental costs keep the sketchiest of the riff-raff at bay.
