A few blocks west of Times Square, the Signature Theatre continues its exploration of the works of Charles Mee with this premiere.
Closing Performance at the Signature Theatre: April 6, 2008
From the theatre:
Welcome to Paradise Park, an amusement park that opens up into all of America and beyond. Meet the inhabitants of this bizarre carnival of life, including a ventriloquist, his dummy, and a teenage girl on the run. From Futureworld to Londonland, the Grand Canyon to Fred's Polynesian Dive Shop, step right up to this wild ride of fruit cake tosses, underwater ballets, square dances, and star gazing, too.
What's the Signature?: This is an outstanding Off-Broadway theatre with a few peculiar things about it. First, the programming. Each season, it selects a playwright, and examines that playwright's work through a series of productions. Second, a very generous corporate sponsorship has meant that the preponderance of the tickets are sold at $20, some $50 cheaper than their 'market value'. This also means that runs tend to sell out before the beginning of performances, so buy early. Occasionally, if the critics rave about a show, the theatre will extend it for a week or more, and those tickets are generally easier to score, given that they're priced at 'market value'. More here.
