Standup comedienne Judy Gold brings her one-woman show to the theatre district.
Closing Performance at St. Luke's: March 18, 2007
There's a fine line between standup comedy and theatre, and this effort certainly tends to the former. Gold brings many characters to life, and the evening has been scripted as a play, but the heart of it is her own wry and heartfelt insights into the species in question. As the Times described her, this "single, Jewish, kosher-kitchen lesbian mother of two sons" has a very particular point of view on the borscht-brewing, oil-paper spreading, benignly-eviscerating qualities of Jewish Motherhood, and she shares them with the ease of conversation.
Warmhearted, light, on familiar themes. A good buy if discounted, and your group is looking for a pleasant theatrical diversion.
