The best play of the London season (if the Olivier awards are to be believed) - a drama about the aftermath of pedophilia - is given an American staging by Manhattan Theater Club.
Closing Performance at MTC: June 10, 2007
Jeff Daniels stars in this production on the mainstage of one of the city's largest nonprofits. MTC has made a trade of presenting new significant new plays in a noncommercial atmosphere steps from the bright lights of Broadway, and here, they're boldly treading some dark ground with a drama about an encounter between a pedophile and an adult former victim of his. The subscriber base and usual programming for this theatre are both fairly conservative, but this is certainly not light fare.
Joe Mantello (Love, Valor, Compassion) directs.
Mature audiences.
Update: The reviews are in (see Critics Ratings, below), and they're almost all raves for both the acting and the script.
