From the theatre:
Kenny Barrett did something that has everyone worried. He wishes he could just make it through the rest of his senior year unnoticed, but that's going to be hard since he has to publicly apologize to his entire high school. At home, his family is struggling with second marriages, surprise visits, school dances and forgotten dry cleaning.
A darkly funny and unexpectedly moving family story, this world premiere is written by newcomer Liz Flahive and directed by Leigh Silverman (Well). The cast: Jenni Barber, Arija Bareikis, Aya Cash, Brian Hutchison, Will Rogers, Tobias Segal, Joel Van Liew, and Tony Award winner Julie White.
Through 6/8.
2007-2008 Outer Critics Circle Award - John Gassner Award (Presented for an American play, preferably by a new playwright).
What's Manhattan Theatre Club?: One of three not-for-profit theatres that produce a season on Broadway each year, MTC also has two smaller stages at City Center, where they produce mostly modern plays in productions that are usually quite conventional. You'll notice that the audience looks different than at your usual Off-Broadway play or Broadway musical - that's because of all the subscribers to the theatre - generally a dignified and quiet bunch, prone to discussing the afternoon's seven-figure deal, or reminiscing about their halcyon days at one of the Seven Sisters over an intermission martini.
