From the theatre:
Neil LaBute’s bristling new comic drama puts the final ferocious cap on a trilogy of plays that began with The Shape of Things and Fat Pig. America’s obsession with physical beauty is confronted headlong in this brutal and exhilarating new play.
In reasons to be pretty, Greg’s tight-knit social circle is thrown into turmoil when his off-handed remarks about a female co-worker’s pretty face (and his girlfriend Steph’s lack thereof) get back to said girlfriend. But that’s just the beginning. As their relationship crumbles, their friends are pulled into the fray, and all are forced to confront a sea of deceit, infidelity, and betrayed trust in their journey to answer that oh-so-American question: How much is pretty worth?
What's MCC? MCC is a surprisingly well-connected Off-Broadway theatre, this perhaps due to the 'day jobs' of the intendants, who are major casting directors and producers on larger stages in the city. The theatre has moved around different rental houses in the last few years, but the productions are always marked by a very high standard of casting and technical production. More here.
