From the theater:
"Venus in Fur," inspired by the infamous erotic novel of the same name, takes us behind the scenes of an audition, where a man and a woman blur the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, love and sex. A crackling exploration of sexual control and desire, the play is captive to David Ives' famous combination of classic rigor and contemporary wit.
"Venus in Fur" contains adult content and sexual situations and is intended for audiences ages 18 and over.
David Ives is one of NYC's most versatile theater writers. His work spans nearly 40 years, and includes completely original work plus many adaptations and translations with source material that ranges from Feydeau's classic farce "A Flea in Her Ear" to Mark Twain's "Is He Dead?" and Irving Berlin's "White Christmas."
What is Classic Stage Company? CSC is an award-winning Off-Broadway company which is "committed to re-imagining the classical repertory for a contemporary American audience." Founded in 1967, the company performs in an intimate 180-seat venue near Union Square. More here.
