A new play that explores a childhood lived without boundaries and the consequences of being forced to grow up on your own.
From the producers: Bobbie and Hench are home alone. Days are filled by streaming porn, playing video games, and watching the world go by. Their mom rarely visits these days, and it’s chaos when she does. But when animal-loving neighbor Jenny takes an interest in their dog Taliban, the boys discover a world far beyond what they know. "Yen" explores a childhood lived without boundaries.
Author Anna Jordan's new play was inspired by a story in a local paper about two boys who committed a hideous crime. "Yen" premiered at the U.K.'s Manchester Royal Exchange Studio Theatre. The play won the 2013 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting.
Lucas Hedges ("The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Manchester by the Sea") leads a cast that includes Jack DiFalco, Ari Graynor, Stefania LaVie Owen and Justice Smith.
What's MCC Theater? MCC Theater is a well-connected Off-Broadway company...this perhaps due to the 'day jobs' of the intendants, who are major casting directors and producers on larger stages in the city. MCC's productions are almost always marked by a very high standard of casting and technical production. The company's production of "reasons to be pretty" moved to Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award in 2008. More here.
