This long-running (it's been going for over a decade) piece is very popular with tourists, and has spawned a good half-dozen productions around the world. If we had to write a summary, it would be something like this: a few gents paint themselves blue and drum and throw things about. Quite enjoyable.
A 2005 re-review in the Times was very positive, saying in part:
A graduate student could have a field day, but, far more likely, her child would, since "Tubes" is a Willy Wonka fantasy for children. What preteenager doesn't want to stuff his face with marshmallows until his cheeks puff out like Dizzy Gillespie's?
From the Blue Man Group website (link below):
The blue men do use a variety of materials on stage and at times those materials get into the audience. While it does not happen all the time, we do strongly suggest that you do not wear clothing that you consider nice or valuable. We encourage casual attire for the show. Jeans and sneakers are ideal. Suede is best left at home.
