NY City Ballet - Here/Now Festival No. 9

Lincoln Center - David H. Koch Theatre

Sun, May 21 @ 3:00 PM

Nowhere else can you find a program featuring six ballets by six different choreographers. Spanning the powerful athleticism of Red Angels to the poignantly searching Polaris, this varied sextet concludes with Concerto DSCH‘s waves of dramatic emotion.

Red Angels

Music by: Richard Einhorn
Choreography by: Ulysses Dove

A dynamically charged, abstract work, Red Angels highlights the power and athleticism of its four dancers through bold choreography, intense lighting, and a riveting score for electric violin.

Varied Trio (in four)

Music by: Lou Harrison
Choreography by: Jean-Pierre Frohlich

Varied Trio (in four) is a collection of short dances for a couple whose movements resonate with the simple, minimalist Lou Harrison score.

Barber Violin Concerto

Music by: Samuel Barber
Choreography by: Peter Martins

Alternately noble and quixotic, Barber Violin Concerto contrasts a classical couple with a bare-footed couple as the worlds of ballet and modern dance collide.

Music by: William Walton
Choreography by: Myles Thatcher
Principal Casting:

Named for the renowned celestial North Star guide, Polaris’s cast of eight mimic the stars, mixing and mingling as a singular body to form myriad constellations, led by a lone dancer searching for her own source of direction.

Herman Schmerman (Pas de Deux)

Music by: Thom Willems
Choreography by: William Forsythe
Principal Casting:

Forsythe’s angular, contemporary choreography for this striking and inventive pas de deux is paired to an electronic score by his long-time collaborator Thom Willems.

Concerto DSCH

Music by: Dmitri Shostakovich
Choreography by: Alexei Ratmansky

With its thrilling Shostakovich score and dramatic texture, Ratmansky’s acclaimed 2008 creation excels with classical ingenuity and contemporary stylishness.
