From the producers: In the rubble of the London Blitz of World War II, Alice Spencer’s budding teen life is turned upside down, and she and her dear friend Alfred are forced to take shelter in an underground tube station. When the ailing Alfred is quarantined, Alice encourages him to escape with her into their cherished book and journey down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. As they travel through the tale, "Alice By Heart" explores the poignancy of first love, coming to terms with loss, and finding the courage to move forward. This world premiere musical encourages us all to celebrate the transformational power of the imagination, even in the harshest of times.
Authors Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik won a Tony Award in 2007 for their score to "Spring Awakening," with Sater also winning for his book. Co-author and director Jessie Nelson wrote the Broadway musical adaptation of the movie "Waitress." She is also known for her extensive film work as writer, director, and producer of the films "Corrina, Corrina" and "I Am Sam," for which she received the Stanley Kramer Award from the Producers Guild.
Leading the cast of "Alice By Heart" are Molly Gordon as Alice and Colton Ryan as Alfred/The White Rabbit. Joining them are Noah Galvin, Wesley Taylor, Mia DiLena, Zachary Downer, Zachary Infante, Andrew Kober, Grace McLean, Nkeki Obi-Melekwe, Catherine Ricafort, and Heath Saunders. What's MCC Theater?
MCC Theater is a well-connected Off-Broadway company...this perhaps due to the 'day jobs' of the intendants, who are major casting directors and producers on larger stages in the city. MCC's productions are almost always marked by a very high standard of casting and technical production. The company's production of "reasons to be pretty" moved to Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award in 2008. More here.
