From the producers: "Curvy Widow" takes us through the semi-autobiographical adventures of a gutsy, recently widowed 50-something woman as she immerses herself in the modern dating scene. From exploring internet personal ads and surviving hilarious first dates, to weighing the pros and cons of married vs unmarried men, this widow romps her way through it all with humor and perseverance, and discovers unexpected truths about love, life and sex. The musical features a brilliant ensemble of best friends, a dead husband and a myriad of potential suitors.
The story of "Curvy Widow" is taken from the true-life experiences of playwright Barbara Bobby Goldman. The sex-charged comedy was inspired by the playwright’s experiences after her husband, writer James Goldman ("The Lion in Winter," "Follies") died suddenly. At 50-something, the attractive widow turned to dating to fill the real or imagined void in her life. This process, unpredictable under the best of circumstances, led her to a life-altering insight that she had not expected.
Following a hit debut at North Carolina Stage Company, the musical played a limited engagement at New Jersey's George Street Playhouse earlier this year. The cast is led by Tony nominee Nancy Opel ("Honeymoon in Vegas," "Urinetown," the upcoming "Prince of Broadway"). She is joined by Andrea Bianchi, Aisha de Haas, Elizabeth Ward Land, Ken Land, Alan Muraoka, and Chris Shyer.
