Comedian, actor and writer Carl Reiner's semi-autobiographical novel "Enter Laughing" was first adapted for the stage in a 1963 play by Joseph Stein and ran on Broadway for over a year. Reiner directed co-wrote the screenplay with Stein for the 1967 film version. "Enter Laughing" was revived off-Broadway as a musical in 2008 at the York Theatre Company
