A topical musical revue the Associated Press described as "Comedy Central's 'Daily Show' set to music."
From the theatre: No one in the news is safe! The Drama Desk nominated musical revue "NEWSical" is back lampooning current events, newsmakers, celebrities, and politicians. With songs and material being updated on a regular basis, composer-lyricist Rick Crom's topical musical comedy is an ever-evolving mockery of all the news that is fit to spoof!
The cast of this show (which uses the tag line "We Distort You Decide") is populated by alums of the long-running Off-Broadway hit "Forbidden Broadway." You can get a good sense of the show in this video (which is NSFW due to language):
According to the producers, this show "may be inappropriate for 12 and under."
Directed by Mark Waldrop and written and composed by Rick Crom, the show's a welcome throwback to the days when satirical revues were a staple of city night life. Crom's material, set to tuneful, original music, has its hits and misses. But the bits are fast and furious, and are so cunningly performed that the duds are easily overlooked. Not surprisingly, the targets are often predictable, but no less amusing. The only thing not funny about "NEWSical the Musical" is that each day's absurdities provide no shortage of inspiration.

Despite the best efforts of the four cast members, the show only underscores that television has made it impossible to do this type of humor on the stage. Not that there aren't some funny moments, but it's telling that most come from bits not pegged to politics or spot news. But other skits show their age. That these tidbits are delivered musically in rhyming couplets doesn't make them sound any less like something Jay Leno said many weeks ago.
