A new musical that celebrates the life, music, and legacy of famed lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, incorporating his personal correspondence, unpublished lyrics, interviews, and rare memoirs.
From the producers: "Sincerely, Oscar" is a one-of-a-kind musical experience highlighting Oscar Hammerstein’s journey to become Broadway’s greatest lyricist. Through curated story-telling and imaginative performances, this visually stunning show utilizes cutting edge, 3D holographic technology and explores Oscar's amazing life in his words while weaving a melodious tapestry of over 30 of his greatest songs from shows like "The Sound of Music," "Show Boat," "Oklahoma!," "Carousel," "South Pacific," "Allegro" and more.
American librettist and theatrical producer Oscar Hammerstein II won eight Tony Awards and two Academy Awards for Best Original Song. Many of his songs are standard repertoire for vocalists and jazz musicians. He co-wrote 850 songs, collaborating with numerous composers, such as Jerome Kern, with whom he wrote "Show Boat," Vincent Youmans, Rudolf Friml, Richard A. Whiting, and Sigmund Romberg. But he is best known for his collaborations with Richard Rodgers, as the duo Rodgers and Hammerstein, whose collaborations include "Oklahoma!," "Carousel," "South Pacific," "The King and I," and "The Sound of Music."
After a sold-out debut in Philadelphia, PA and a highly successful Off-Broadway run-in December 2017, "Sincerely, Oscar" returns in this full production remount. Azudi Onyejekwe ("The Great Comet," "Violet") stars alongside the show's creator, Doreen Taylor, who has collaborated with the Hammerstein family over a number of years on the musical tribute.
