A new musical that tells the story of a fractured family, a mysterious stranger in apartment 4-B, and an unexpected hero.
From the producers: Before we can save the world, we have to save each other. From the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer of "Next to Normal" and the Tony Award-winning writer of "Red" comes a deeply human new musical about a fractured family, the mysterious stranger in apartment 4-B, and the unexpected hero who just might save the day.
Composer Tom Kitt is best known for writing the score for "Next to Normal," for which he shared the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama with co-author Brian Yorkey. "Superhero" unites Kitt with three-time Academy Award nominee and Tony-winning writer John Logan ("Red," "Gladiator").
The cast will be led by Tony nominees Kate Baldwin ("Hello Dolly!") and Bryce Pinkham ("A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder"), along with newcomer Kyle McArthur. They are joined onstage by Julia Abueva, Jake Levy, Salena Qureshi, Thom Sesma, and Nathaniel Stampley. Jason Moore ("Avenue Q," "The Cher Show") directs.
What's Second Stage? Second Stage is a long-running producing organization with a recently redesigned Off-Broadway theater in the heart of the midtown theater district, and a smaller space (the company's original home) on the Upper West Side. Established as a 'Second Stage' for shows that didn't find an audience the first time around, the company now combines revivals with new work, and several of its shows have recently made the jump to larger houses across the street. The fare is sometimes a bit racy, but often very approachable...call it quirkiness with an edge. More here.
