In turn-of-the-century Mississippi, the local minister’s daughter walks the line between piety and sensuality with the neighborhood doctor who grew up next door in this Tennessee Williams classic.
From the producers:
A drama in a prologue and two parts about Alma Winemiller's repressed love affair with her childhood sweetheart, the handsome but dissolute Dr. John. He is a man of the body and the senses. Miss Alma (the Spanish word for "soul") is a creature of the spirit - or at least so she'd like to believe. Will they understand each other before it's too late?Author Tennessee Williams first began writing "Summer and Smoke" (originally titled "Chart of Anatomy") in 1945. The play received its first Broadway performance at the Music Box Theatre in 1948, running for 102 performances. A revised version, retitled "The Eccentricities of a Nightingale" was staged in 1976 at the now extinct Morosco Theatre. A 1961 film adaptation was released starring Laurence Harvey, Rita Moreno and Geraldine Page.
The cast of "Summer and Smoke" features Glenna Brucken, Phillip Clark, Nathan Darrow, Hannah Elless, Elena Hurst, Marin Ireland, Tina Johnson, Gerardo Rodriguez, T. Ryder Smith, Ryan Spahn, Jonathan Spivey, and Barbara Walsh. Jack Cummings III, the artistic Director of co-producing company Transport Group, directs.
