From MCC Theater, a surprise proposal takes an unexpected turn, upending the world of Genesis and Rashad and putting the future of their relationship at risk in this new drama.
From the producers: Not every marriage proposal goes as planned. Loy A. Webb’s "The Light" introduces us to Rashad and Genesis on what should be one of the happiest days of their lives, but their joy quickly unravels when ground-shifting accusations from the past resurface in this gripping two character drama. Can their relationship survive the growing divide between them over who–and what–to believe? Directed by Logan Vaughn, "The Light" is a reckoning that unfolds in real-time and peels away the layers of truth, doubt, pain, and ultimately the power of love.
Author and Chicago native Loy A. Webb's other works include "I AM a Woman" and “His Shadow.” "The Light" was originally developed at the New Colony in Chicago, which presented the world premiere at the Den Theatre in 2018.
The cast of "The Light" features Drama Desk Award winner McKinley Belcher III and Mandi Masden. This production inaugurates MCC Theater's new, permanent home on West 52nd Street, the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space. What's MCC Theater?
MCC Theater is a well-connected Off-Broadway company...this perhaps due to the 'day jobs' of the intendants, who are major casting directors and producers on larger stages in the city. MCC's productions are almost always marked by a very high standard of casting and technical production. The company's production of "reasons to be pretty" moved to Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award in 2008. More here.
