From the producers: At a middle school in this seaside town, the unthinkable has happened, placing a bewildered community in the national spotlight. Stuck at home in a state of shocked limbo, Julie and Zander, two thirteen-year-olds, try to make sense of the chaos they witnessed, their awkward crushes, and an infinitely more complicated future — but the grown-ups are no help at all. An urgent response to our times, "This Flat Earth" is a startling and deeply felt story of growing up in our confounding world.
Author Lindsey Ferrentino's plays include "Ugly Lies the Bone" and "Amy and the Orphans," which is now playing at Roundabout Theatre Company. Her other works are "Kokomo," "Moonlight on the Bayou," "Magic Man," and "Paradise Bar and Grill."
The cast of "This Flat Earth" features Ella Kennedy Davis and Ian Saint-Germain, both 13 years old. Completing the cast are Cassie Beck, Lynda Gravatt and Lucas Papaelias. Tony winner Rebecca Taichman ("Indecent") directs.
What's Playwrights Horizons? PH is a long-running Off-Broadway theatre on West 42nd that develops new plays by both veteran scribes and folks just off the radish truck (admittedly, the radish truck might have made a stop at an MFA playwriting program). The shows are produced in the company's state-of-the-art venues on West 42nd Street, with production standards equal to the best of Off-Broadway....generally, nothing too conceptual or provocative, just interesting plays, well rendered.
